Where his contemporaries refined wood and craft, Panton — once an assistant in Arne Jacobsen's studio — pursued sensory experience: colour, movement, even sound. Each Fun lamp is dressed in thin discs of natural mother-of-pearl, cut by hand and hung in overlapping curtains; they catch and fracture the light like water, and when air stirs them they answer with a delicate, chime-like rustle. No two shells are identical, so every lamp carries its own pattern of iridescence.
