With the Fun series of 1964 he turned to an unexpectedly natural material: thin discs of mother-of-pearl seashell, hand-cut and hung in cascading layers from simple metal frames. The discs do more than glitter — they sway with the slightest movement of air and touch one another with a soft, chime-like sound, making Fun one of the rare lamps that engages the ear as well as the eye. Place it in a corner of the living room or beside an armchair, where passing movement keeps the shells gently alive. In smaller apartments it earns its footprint by doubling as the room's main decorative object, so you need less elsewhere; its reflective discs also bounce light around, brightening rooms with limited daylight.
