Tanskalaisen muotoilijan Mads Odgårdin suunnittelema Above-riippuvalaisin tiivistää riippuvalaisimen yhdeksi varmaotteiseksi geometriseksi eleeksi – uskollisena hänen ohjenuoralleen, jonka mukaan esineen ei tule olla monimutkaisempi kuin sen käyttötarkoitus vaatii. Above: Mads Odgård's cone with an arch on top
Danish designer Mads Odgård made the Above pendant for Louis Poulsen as a lesson in reduction. The shade is a graphic cone of spun aluminium that casts light downward. An arch-shaped opening at the top, which gives the lamp its name, shows the cord and lets out a soft upward light.

Light down, glow up
Most light falls onto the table, while the top opening adds a calm upward glow.

How simple do you dare?
Odgård describes the Above as his mantra in a lamp: how simple do you dare to design? He prefers taking elements away to adding them, and the result is a cone, an opening and a cord.
The arch at the top
The arch-shaped cut at the top reveals the cord and lets a little light rise upward. It keeps the room from feeling dark above the lamp and gives the shade its character when switched off.
Sizes and spaces
The Ø 175 suits a row over a kitchen island. The Ø 250 lights a small table or a bedside. The Ø 400 takes a 100 W E27 bulb and lights a dining table. Mixed sizes hung together make a clean cluster.
