VL Studio: a 1940s Radiohuset lamp, back in 2022
Vilhelm Lauritzen designed the Studio lamp in the 1940s for Radiohuset, the Danish Broadcasting House in Copenhagen. Its name comes from lamps outside the recording studios. Louis Poulsen brought it back in 2022 as a wall lamp and a table and floor lamp.
- 1945Radiohuset opens in Copenhagen
- 2022Year the Studio lamp returned
- 3Layers of mouth-blown glass
- 3Globe sizes: Ø150, Ø250, Ø320
Soft, glare-free glow
Triple-layered opal glass hides the bulb and spreads an even light all around.
Brass that ages
The brushed brass is left untreated, so it develops a natural patina over time.
Table, floor or wall
The Ø320 sits on the floor or a low table; the smaller sizes suit shelves, bedsides and walls.
Easy bulb changes
The glass unscrews from the housing to reach the bulb.

Red light, on air
Some of Lauritzen's lamps sat outside the recording studios at Radiohuset, where a red or green light showed whether a recording was underway. That is where the Studio name comes from.

A total work of art
Lauritzen designed Radiohuset down to its interiors and fine details, working with Louis Poulsen on its lamps. The table and floor lamp takes the head and materials of the original wall lamp.

Close to the original
The 2022 versions stay close to the original materials and form, with only minor changes: a glossy opal globe on a brushed brass or matt black housing. The wall lamp's shade tilts 90° to either side.
Materiaalit
Three-layer opal glass
Mouth-blown and glossy white; wipe it clean with a soft, damp cloth when cool.
Untreated brushed brass
Not lacquered, so it darkens slowly; dust it dry and let the patina form.
Matt black aluminium
A wet-painted alternative for a graphic look that stays as it is.

Which bulb does it take?
The Ø150 and wall lamp take one G9 bulb of up to 25 W; the Ø250 and Ø320 take one E27 bulb of up to 40 W.
Can I dim it?
The Ø250 and Ø320 have an electronic dimmer on the cord and need a dimmable bulb. The Ø150 has an on/off switch.
How do I change the bulb?
Let the lamp cool, unscrew the glass from the housing, replace the bulb and screw the glass back on.
Can the wall lamp be hardwired?
Yes. It comes with a 2.5 m cord and plug or without a cord for hardwiring.
Will the brass stay bright?
No. Untreated brass develops a patina. If you prefer it bright, polish it now and then with a brass cleaner.
