Vilhelm Wohlert — Louisiana Museum of Modern Artin toinen arkkitehti — suunnitteli tämän riippuvalaisimen Louis Poulsenille vuonna 1959, samassa rauhallisessa hengessä kuin tuon merkkirakennuksen.

Louis Poulsen
Wohlert: a 1959 opal globe by a museum architect
Architect Vilhelm Wohlert designed this pendant for Louis Poulsen in 1959. The brief asked for a lamp that suits rooms of any size and is easy to install, relamp and maintain. His answer is a mouth-blown opal globe with an opening below.
- 1959Year Wohlert designed it
- 3Sizes: Ø300, Ø350 and Ø400
- E27Socket, with LED versions too
- 3 mCord on E27 versions
Even, all-round light
The opal glass glows uniformly, giving calm general light to the whole room.
Light down where needed
An opening at the bottom of the globe sends extra light onto the table below.
Easy to live with
It was designed from the start to be simple to install, relamp and keep clean.
Three sizes to choose
From Ø300 for a small dining table to Ø400 for a large room or a double-height space.

A practical brief
Louis Poulsen asked Wohlert for one pendant that would work in rooms of very different sizes. He reduced it to a single glass form that does the job without moving parts or extra shades.

Glass that stays lit
The quality of the mouth-blown glass keeps the whole globe evenly lit, so there are no bright spots. The opening at the base adds direct light to the surface beneath, giving both general and table light from one lamp.

Steel and opal
A brushed steel tube carries the globe in three sizes, Ø300, Ø350 and Ø400. Choose an E27 version with a 3 m cord, or an LED version with a 4 m cord and the driver built into the canopy.
Materiaalit
Mouth-blown opal glass
Matt white glass that diffuses the light; wipe it with a damp cloth when cool.
Brushed steel
The pendant tube is brushed steel, a quiet finish that suits the glass.
LED option
LED versions have an integrated light source, with phase, DALI or Bluetooth control on some variants.

Which size should I choose?
Ø300 suits a small table or hallway, Ø350 a standard dining table, and Ø400 a large table or high ceiling.
Which bulb does it take?
The E27 versions take one E27 bulb of up to 70 W. A warm white E27 LED is a good choice. LED versions have the light source built in.
Can I dim it?
Yes. Use a dimmable bulb in the E27 version, or choose an LED version with phase dimming, DALI or Bluetooth.
How high should it hang?
Over a dining table, hang it low enough that the light falls on the table without blocking the view across it.
How do I clean it?
Switch off and let it cool, then wipe the glass with a soft, damp cloth and dry it.
