Bankers: Jacobsen's last clock, for Denmark's central bank
Bankers is the last clock Arne Jacobsen designed, drawn in 1970 for the National Bank of Denmark, completed in 1971. Twelve small squares mark the hours, one filled in black. The range spans wall clocks from 12 to 48 cm, a table clock and a matching weather station.

- 12Squares marking the hours
- 48 cmLargest wall clock
- 4Weather station dials: time, pressure, humidity, temperature
A face without numbers
The hours are squares, read as a spiral out from the centre.
Five wall clock sizes
Wall clocks of 12, 16, 21, 29 and 48 cm cover every wall.
A matching weather station
Barometer, hygrometer and thermometer share the 12 cm Bankers case.
Floats on the wall
A bracket keeps a gap behind the clock, so it seems to hover.

Designed to the last detail
Jacobsen's National Bank of Denmark looks closed and monolithic from the street. Inside it opens into large rooms designed down to the fittings, with Lily and Swan chairs, VOLA taps and the new Bankers clock.

A conceptual face
Bankers is the most conceptual of Jacobsen's clock faces. Twelve squares replace numerals and marks, one filled in black, and the eye reads a movement spiralling out from the centre. The frame is thin, the crystal concave.

The weather station
Bankers also gives its face to a weather station: a clock, a barometer, a hygrometer and a thermometer, each 12 cm across. Hung as a row, they show time, air pressure, humidity and temperature.
Matériaux
Mineral glass
A concave lens on the wall clocks, hard to scratch and clear to read.
Aluminium case
Slim and light; it holds the glass slightly away from the wall so the clock seems to float.
ABS and PMMA
Light, durable plastics for the table clock body and lens.

Au quotidien
Which size should I choose?
12 or 16 cm for a kitchen or shelf, 21 or 29 cm for most rooms, and 48 cm for a large wall or stairwell.
Can I combine the weather station pieces?
Yes. Clock, barometer, hygrometer and thermometer all measure 12 cm and are made to hang side by side.
What does the table clock do?
The 11 cm table clock on its metal legs has an alarm with snooze and a light sensor, so it works by the bed as well as on a desk.
Is Jacobsen's name on the dial?
Yes. Today's clocks, made by Rosendahl, carry Arne Jacobsen's name in his original typeface.
How do I clean it?
Dust the case and glass with a soft, dry cloth. For marks on the glass, use a slightly damp cloth and dry it straight away.
