Kay Bojesen
Kay Bojesen's Royal Guard, standing watch since 1942
Kay Bojesen made his hand-painted Royal Guardsmen in 1942, inspired by the guards outside Amalienborg Palace in Copenhagen. The Standard-bearer, the Drummer and the Guardsman with rifle or sword are turned in FSC-certified beech, and a 36 cm sentry box gives them a post.

A Danish national symbol
The figures follow the uniform of the Royal Life Guards who stand watch at Amalienborg.
Birthday table regular
The Standard-bearer is a familiar guest on Danish birthday breakfast tables.
Sizes for every space
Standard-bearers range from the mini to a large floor figure.
Replaceable parts
Spare textile flags keep a Standard-bearer complete if one goes missing.

Inspired by Amalienborg
The Royal Life Guards have guarded Danish palaces and castles since 1658. Kay Bojesen took their red, blue and white uniforms and turned them into round, smiling wooden soldiers in 1942.

A full guard
The Drummer, the Guardsman with rifle and the Guardsman with sword stand 22.5 cm tall. The Standard-bearer comes in four sizes: the mini and small carry cotton flags, and the medium and large carry banners in durable spun polyester.

A sentry box to stand in
The 36 cm sentry box is a scaled-down copy of original drawings of Danish military sentry boxes, painted red and white with the royal monogram in gold. One version honours King Frederik X.

Roll the drumsticks gently into the Drummer's hands using both hands.

Only until it sits firmly. It does not need to be pushed all the way in.
Can I replace a lost flag?
Yes. Spare textile flags are made for the mini and small Standard-bearers.
Does the sentry box fit the guardsmen?
Yes. It is made as a shelter for Kay Bojesen's Royal Guardsmen.
How do I clean the figures?
Wipe with a dry cloth and keep them out of direct sunlight to protect the paint.
