PH 3½-3 ガラスペンダントは、1926年に確立されたポール・ヘニングセンの3枚シェードシステムの一員です。対数螺旋に基づく設計がまぶしさのない均一な光を生み、口吹き3層オパールガラスのシェード——上面はグロス、下面はサンドブラストのマット——が柔らかで均質な照明をもたらします。
ポール・ヘニングセン（1894–1967）は、反射角に関する長年の体系的な実験を経てシステムPHに到達し、その成果を順次発表していきました。紙の上の曲線と、ガラスや金属の両方を駆使したデザイナーです。1926年のシステムは各シェードを光源を焦点とする対数螺旋上に配置し、反射角はシェード全体で一定に保たれ、直接光が目に入ることはありません。PH 3½-3では35 cmのトップシェードにサイズグループ3のロワーシェードを組み合わせ、すべてを3層オパールガラスの口吹きで製作。上面グロス、下面サンドブラストという二重の表面処理が、輪郭は凜と、効果は柔らかという独特の輝きを生みます。光の一部がガラスを透過し、フォルム全体がほのかに灯り続けます。

Henningsen's PH 3½-3, from 1920s drawings
The PH 3½-3 pairs a 35 cm top shade with lower shades from the 3 size group of Poul Henningsen's three-shade system. In 2014, for his 120th birthday, Louis Poulsen added coloured metal shades based on his drawings from the late 1920s and early 1930s, beside the opal and pale rose glass.

From the archive
Louis Poulsen based the metal PH 3½-3 on Henningsen's original drawings from the late 1920s and early 1930s. It was launched in 2014 to mark his 120th birthday on 9 September, more than 80 years after the first drawings.
Metal and copper
The spun shades have a white rolled edge and white insides, so the light stays white whatever the outside colour. They hang from a silk-matt brown, copper-plated suspension, a warm contrast to the coloured exteriors.
Over the table
As a hybrid size, the PH 3½-3 is made to hang low. One suits a round dining table, two or three a long one. The glass versions glow softly through their shades, while metal versions keep the light on the table.

Spun aluminium shades
White, red, green or yellow, with white inner sides for glare-free reflection.
Mouth-blown glass
White opal or four-layer pale rose, sandblasted white underneath.
Copper-plated or brushed brass
The metal version's suspension is copper-plated; untreated brass on the pale rose ages to a patina.

Poul Henningsen
1894–1967
Henningsen was a Danish architect, writer and designer who began working with Louis Poulsen in 1924, a partnership that lasted until his death in 1967. His lamp for the 1925 Paris Exposition won gold, and in 1925–26 he set out the three-shade system behind the whole PH collection.

Which bulb should I use?
One E27 bulb. The metal version takes up to 70 W; a warm LED of about 2700 K works well.
How high should I hang it?
About 60–70 cm above a dining table.
Metal or glass?
Metal sends all the light down and out with colour on the outside. Glass also glows through its shades.
Can I dim it?
Yes, with a dimmable bulb and a compatible dimmer.
How do I clean it?
Let it cool. Dust metal with a dry cloth and wipe glass with a lightly damp cloth.
