幾何学と愉しさをヴェルナー・パントン（1926–1998）ほど堅い確信をもって結びつけたデザイナーはまれです。建築を学び、アルネ・ヤコブセンのスタジオで出発したパントンは、デンマーク的な抑制と訣別し、純粋な色彩と五感の愉びでできたインテリアを築きました——そのビジョンの中心には常に照明がありました。Hiveはその思想を一つのオブジェに凝縮したもの。蜜蜂の巣の階層のように重なる同心円シェードの各層が電球のまぶしさを遮り、光を下へと折り曲げるため、器具は彫刻のように見えながらランプとして勤勉に働きます。現在は、パントンの照明デザインをオリジナルの仕様どおりに製造するデンマーク企業VERPANが生産しています。

Panton's Hive: layered shades, glare-free light
Verner Panton built the Hive pendant from several concentric aluminium shades of different sizes. Layered like a hive, they send light straight down and diffuse it softly into the room, with 100% glare-free light. It comes in polished aluminium or yellow.

Direct and diffused

Geometry from nature
Panton liked to play with basic geometric forms and systems, often inspired by organic shapes in nature. The Hive is one of them: a set of rings of varying size that reads as a single, rounded body.
How the layers work
Each concentric shade catches part of the light and passes it on. Together they direct light downward and diffuse it outward through the gaps, which keeps the light comfortable from every side.

At Ø48 cm and 27 cm high, the Hive suits a dining table, kitchen island or living room. It weighs 4.7 kg and hangs on a 300 cm black fabric cord. Hang one alone, or two in a row over a long table.
