デンマークデザインの遊び心あふれる一翼で、ヴェルナー・パントンほど大きな存在感を放つデザイナーはそういません。同時代の多くが木と手仕事の伝統を磨き続けるなか、パントンは新素材と大胆な幾何学を追い求めました。彼が繰り返し魅了されたものの一つが、透ける構造です。金属の棒で形を描きながらも中を開け放つフレームは、物体を「組み立てた」というより「空中に描いた」ように見せます。Wireファミリーはその系譜に連なります。パントンのデザインを忠実に生産し続けるデンマークの照明ブランドVERPANは、背の高い兄弟と同じ論理でWireテーブルランプを作っています。クロムめっきスチールの開かれた骨組みが上に向かって広がり、端正な白い半球を支え、内部の小さな金属リフレクターが電球の光を柔らかな間接的アンビエント光へと変えます。消えていればミニチュアの彫刻として、点いていれば卓上の静かな安らぎの灯りとして佇みます。

Panton's 1972 Wire lamp: chrome frame, dome shade
Verner Panton designed the Wire lamp in 1972. A chrome-plated steel wire frame widens at the top to hold a hemispherical shade, and a small metal reflector guides the light into it. The open frame keeps the lamp light and airy in any room.

Light, open look
The wire frame lets you see through the lamp, so it never crowds a desk or corner.
Soft ambient light
The bulb sits in a small reflector that sends its light into the shade, which spreads it into the room.

White shades, or orange, yellow and red on selected sizes.
Industrial and poetic
Panton paired industrial materials with a soft, dome-like shade. The chrome wire frame reads almost like a drawing in the air, and the shade sits on top as a glowing dome. Over fifty years on, the silhouette is unchanged.
How the light works
The bulb is held in a small hemispherical metal reflector that guides the light to the inside of the shade. The shade then spreads it outward as soft, ambient light across the room.
From desk to floor
The Ø30 table lamp, 42 cm high, suits desks and bedside tables. The Ø40 stands 54 cm and the floor lamp 120 cm. The cordless Ø18 portable is 25 cm high and gives up to 9 hours at full brightness.

1926–1998
Panton was a Danish architect and designer who started out in Arne Jacobsen's office. He embraced steel, plastics and strong colour while many contemporaries kept to wood. VERPAN works with Verner Panton Design AG to reissue his designs to their original form.

Which bulb does it take?
The Ø40 table lamp and the floor lamp take one E27 bulb of up to 60 W. The Ø30 table lamp takes an E14 bulb.
How long does the portable last?
Up to 9 hours at the maximum setting. Charging takes about 7 hours.
Which size should I choose?
Ø30 cm for a desk or bedside table, Ø40 cm for a sideboard or living room table, and the floor lamp beside a sofa or chair.
Where is the switch?
On the transparent cord: 250 cm long on the Ø40 and floor lamp, 220 cm on the Ø30.
How do I clean it?
Let it cool, then dust the frame and shade with a soft, dry cloth.
