Marimekko
Unbleached cotton Mono bags printed with Unikko
The Mono bags are cut from unbleached organic cotton and carry Maija Isola's 1964 Unikko, most of them printed in Helsinki. Because the cotton is left unbleached, small dark specks from the cotton plant can show, so each bag looks slightly different. The range runs from a mini crossbody to a backpack.

Cotton left natural
Unbleached cotton keeps a lively colour and surface of its own.
Printed in Helsinki
The Unikko print is applied at Marimekko's printing works in Helsinki.
Shape it yourself
The City Tote's side drawstrings tighten the opening and change its shape.
From mini to laptop
A 22 cm crossbody, a mini tote, a city tote and a backpack that takes a laptop.

Cotton left natural
The cotton is not bleached, so it keeps its natural colour and texture. Small dark dots from the cotton plant may appear in the weave. They are part of the material and vary from bag to bag.

Unikko in black
Maija Isola created Unikko in 1964 as an abstraction of a flower rather than a realistic one. On Mono the poppy is printed in Helsinki on off-white cotton, which gives the familiar shape a softer, quieter look.

Four shapes
The Mini Crossbody and Mini Tote carry the basics. The City Tote has short and long handles and side drawstrings. The Backpack has a zip, two front pockets and an inside pocket large enough for a laptop.
Materialen
Unbleached organic cotton
Natural colour with small plant specks; no two bags are quite the same.
Helsinki print
Unikko is printed at Marimekko's own factory in Helsinki.
Made in Estonia
The totes and crossbody are sewn in Estonia from 100% cotton.

Maija Isola
1927–2001
Maija Isola joined Armi Ratia's company in 1949, before it was even called Marimekko, and designed for it until 1987. In that time she drew more than 500 prints. She painted Unikko in 1964 in defiance of Ratia's rule against florals, and Ratia ended up picking it for the collection.
