The smallest shade set of the 1926 System PH
The PH 1/1 is the smallest shade set in Poul Henningsen's System PH of 1926, with a top shade of about 10 cm in his 3:2:1 proportions. Louis Poulsen builds it as a chandelier, a cordless portable lamp and a piano table lamp, all with mouth-blown glass shades.

Glare-free up close
PH's whole-sized lamps are designed to be especially glare-free, so the small shades stay comfortable near your eyes.
Mouth-blown glass
Every shade set is mouth-blown opal glass with a sandblasted inner side for soft, diffused light.
Three ways to use it
Hang it as a chandelier, carry it as a cordless lamp, or aim it over a desk or piano.
Heritage editions
The Chandelier Centenary Edition and the Piano Table Lamp Limited Edition 2026 revive designs from the 1930s.

The system behind it
Henningsen based System PH on the logarithmic spiral. Each shade reflects the light onto the next, so it leaves the lamp soft and glare-free. The system has spanned hundreds of models, and the PH 1/1 is its smallest whole set.

Chandelier and piano lamp
The chandelier, first known as the Bombardement Chandelier, was in the catalogue from 1933 until the mid-1960s and returns with 3, 6 or 9 arms. The Piano Lamp of the early 1930s carries a PH 1/1 set on a curved, counterweighted stem.

A cordless PH
The PH 1/1 Portable puts the shade set on a brass metallised or high-lustre chrome body. Its dim-to-warm LED moves from 2700 K down to 1800 K, and it is rated IP44 for indoor and outdoor use.
Materiais

Top plate, body and base of the Portable.

Henningsen studied at the Technical School in Frederiksberg and the Technical College in Copenhagen but never graduated as an architect. In the 1920s he met Louis Poulsen's director Sophus Kaastrup-Olsen, the start of a lifelong collaboration. He developed the three-shade system in 1926.
