Louise Campbell's lamp cut from 3 mm aluminium
Danish designer Louise Campbell made LC Shutters from a flat aluminium sheet, 3 mm thick, shaped into a bell. Its pattern is cut and pressed so it opens into two layers. Light passes through an opal diffuser, glows softly inside the shade and leaves through the cuts in a precise pattern.

From flat sheet to bell
The shade starts as a flat aluminium sheet. It is turned into a bell, then the pattern is stamped and the shade painted. A new tool was made to stamp the pattern onto the curve with millimetre precision.
Two kinds of light
Inside, the opal diffuser makes a soft glow. Outside, light escapes through the pressed shutters in a fine, precise pattern, so the lamp shows its shape clearly even in a dark room.
Where it works
At 44 cm across, LC Shutters lights a dining table or a living room from above. It is tough enough for a child's room and calm enough for an office, and it suits homes and public spaces alike.

Campbell was born in Copenhagen and graduated from the London College of Furniture in 1992 and Denmark's Design School in 1995. She founded her studio in 1996 and works mainly with furniture and lighting. Her Campbell Pendant for Louis Poulsen won a gold iF award in 2005.
