Louis Poulsen
A chandelier built on the Fibonacci spiral
Øivind Slaatto designed the Patera for Louis Poulsen in 2015 as a modern take on the chandelier. Its shade is made of small diamond-shaped cells set along a Fibonacci spiral, the pattern of sunflower heads and pine cones. The Patera Oval flattens the form for low ceilings.

A glow without glare
The cells hide the light source from the usual viewing angles, so you see a glowing form.
Light in every direction
It looks finished from all sides, in open rooms, stair voids and double-height spaces.
Assembled by hand
Every die-cut cell is set by hand to build the spiral pattern.
An oval for low rooms
The Patera Oval is flat enough for rooms where headroom matters.
Geometry from nature
Slaatto arranged the cells along the Fibonacci spiral, the order in which seeds grow in a sunflower. Each cell catches light and reflects it outward, so the shade glows evenly while the bulb stays out of sight.
Sphere or oval
The sphere comes in four sizes, from Ø 300 to Ø 900 mm. The Oval is a flat, round form that reads as an ellipse from the side, made for low ceilings and for hanging over a dining table.
Over the table or up high
One Ø 300 or Ø 450 sphere makes a calm halo over a round table. In a stairwell or tall room, hang several at different heights. The large sizes suit lobbies and double-height living rooms.

Øivind Slaatto
Slaatto is a Danish designer who studied music at the Royal Danish Academy of Music before taking a master's degree from the Danish Design School. Music and nature shape his work. He designed the Patera for Louis Poulsen in 2015 and later added the Patera Oval.

Which bulb do I need?
The spheres take one E27 bulb: up to 40 W for Ø 300, 60 W for Ø 450 and 100 W for Ø 600 and Ø 900. LED versions are also offered.
Sphere or Oval?
Choose the Oval for low ceilings or a slimmer look over a table. Choose a sphere where it can be seen from all sides.
How high should I hang it over a table?
Around 60–70 cm above the tabletop keeps the light on the table and the shade in view.
Can I dim it?
Yes, with a dimmable bulb and a compatible dimmer.
How do I clean it?
Remove dust with a soft brush or a gentle stream of cool air.
