Toldbod: shaped by Henningsen's last street light
The Toldbod family is the work of Louis Poulsen's own design team. It is based on the light distribution of the PH Ellipse reflector, Poul Henningsen's last street light concept. The first Toldbod, an outdoor light, came in 1982; glass and metal pendants, a bollard and a wall lamp followed.

Light where you need it
Most of the light goes down, and the shade keeps it out of your eyes.
Soft white inside
The matt, white-painted inside of the shade gives a uniform light.
Indoors and out
Pendants in metal or opal glass, plus a garden bollard and an outdoor wall lamp.
Four quiet colours
Metal pendants come in white, black, blue-grey and light grey.
From the street
Henningsen's PH Ellipse was a street light, shaped to control where light falls. Louis Poulsen's team took its light distribution and built the Toldbod around it, first outdoors in 1982 and later for the home.
The elliptical shade
The shade follows an elliptical curve that hides the bulb at normal sitting and standing angles. Inside, matt white paint spreads the light evenly, so the pool on the table has soft edges.
A family for the whole house
Small pendants suit a kitchen counter in a row. The Ø 400 lights a dining table. Outside, the 155 bollard and wall lamp send all their light downward onto paths and doorsteps, keeping glare out of people's eyes.

The Toldbod family was developed by Louis Poulsen's in-house design team. They based it on the PH Ellipse, the last street light concept by Poul Henningsen, the company's longest partner. The first light came in 1982, and four larger pendant editions were added in 2019.

Which bulb does the pendant take?
Ø 120 takes a G9 bulb, Ø 170 takes E14, and Ø 250 and Ø 400 take E27.
Which size fits my space?
Ø 120 and Ø 170 suit a row over a counter. Ø 250 suits a small table. Ø 400 suits a dining table.
Can the outdoor lights be installed by me?
No. The bollard and wall lamp must be installed by a certified electrician.
Can I dim it?
Yes, with a dimmable bulb and a compatible dimmer.
How do I clean it?
Let it cool. Dust indoor shades with a dry cloth; wipe outdoor lights with a damp one.
