Spiegel comes from Verner Panton's complete interior for the Der Spiegel publishing house in Hamburg in 1969. A square brushed aluminium panel holds the light in a circular indentation, hidden under a hemispherical shade that softens it and removes glare.

Born in Hamburg
In 1969 Panton designed the complete interior of the Der Spiegel publishing house in Hamburg as one complete installation. The Spiegel lamp became famous through that interior and takes its name from it.
Square and dome
The large square has a circular indentation at its centre that holds the light source. A hemispheric shade covers it, breaking and softening the light so it spreads across the brushed aluminium.
Build a system
Typically for Panton, the lamp works alone or as part of a system. Several side by side on a wall or across a ceiling create a dramatic installation. One on its own makes a calm, graphic accent.

Can I mount several together?
Yes. Panton designed it to be used alone or in groups on a wall or ceiling. Each panel can vary by up to 3 mm, so allow for that in a tight grid.
How is it fixed?
On a wall or ceiling, with fixings suited to the surface and the 4.6 kg weight.
What cord does it have?
A 250 cm black fabric cord with an on/off switch.
How do I clean it?
Switch it off, let it cool and dust the aluminium with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners on the brushed surface.
