This heavyweight Marimekko cotton carries Lokki, one of the house's most recognisable prints, printed in Helsinki and sold by the metre. Maija Isola drew Lokki, meaning seagull, in 1961 after watching sunlight fall on a drawn curtain, where the wide folds cast wavelike shadows. She cut the final sketch from coloured paper, which gave the waves their living lines.
The fabric is 100% organic cotton in a heavyweight quality, with a 114 cm pattern repeat, and comes in White / Black. Wash with like colours, follow the washing temperature given and allow for shrinkage of up to 4%. Made in Finland.
Hang it as a curtain so the printed waves fall into real folds, and add cushions from the Marimekko collection.
