Kähler's Nobili tealight holders come in three tall heights, 19, 25.5 and 30 cm, and they look almost identical in a photograph. This guide sets out what actually changes from one size to the next, which height suits which spot, and how to combine them, with the low round version, into a group that looks planned.
Nobili: a candleholder made to be grouped
Nobili is a series by the Danish design duo Bache & Bendix Becker for Kähler, the ceramics house founded in Næstved, Denmark, in 1839. The family is Kähler's festive line of candleware: sculptural, turned profiles with a lustrous glaze that catches the flame and throws it back into the room. The tall tealight holders are made of bone china, a fine, dense ceramic that gives the white glaze its soft sheen.
What sets the high holders apart from a simple tealight cup is their silhouette. Each one rises from a broad foot and draws in towards a slim top where the tealight sits, so the light is lifted well above the tabletop. That lift is the whole point: a flame at 19 or 30 cm sits closer to eye level when you are seated, and it lights faces rather than just the cloth.

H19, H25.5 and H30 compared
The three sizes do not simply get taller. The diameter grows with the height, and so does the weight, which keeps the proportions consistent across the range. Here are the figures side by side.
| H19 cm | H25.5 cm | H30 cm | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Height | 19 cm | 25.5 cm | 30 cm |

| Best for | Windowsills, narrow shelves, the front of a group | Dining tables, sideboards, the middle of a group | Focal point on a long table or console, the back of a group |
The H19 cm is the one to start with if space is tight. At 8 cm across it fits on a deep windowsill or a bookshelf, and at 0.21 kg it is easy to move from the table to the sill when dinner is over.
The H25.5 cm is the middle step and the most versatile. Its 10.5 cm footprint still leaves room for plates and glasses, and nearly double the weight of the smallest size gives it a more grounded presence on a sideboard.
The H30 cm is the statement piece. It is 12 cm wide and weighs 0.53 kg, and it is the only one of the three also offered in gold, which turns it into a strong focal point for a festive table.

Why the widening base matters
A tall candleholder is only as good as its footing. Nobili handles this through its shape rather than added weight: the profile is at its widest at the foot, so the mass sits low and the holder resists tipping when a sleeve or a serving dish brushes past.
The figures support this. As the height increases from 19 to 30 cm, the diameter widens from 8 to 12 cm, so the tallest holder is not proportionally more slender than the smallest. Its height is roughly two and a half times its diameter, close to the ratio of the H19. The heavier bone china body of the larger sizes adds to that steadiness.
In practice, this means you can use even the H30 on a dining table that people reach across. Still, treat any lit candle with care: place the holders on a flat, level surface, keep them away from curtains and never leave a flame unattended.
Building a stepped group on the table
The three heights were clearly made to stand together. Placed in a cluster, the flames sit at three different levels, which gives a sense of depth that a row of identical holders cannot. A few principles help the group look intentional:
- Tallest at the back. On a sideboard or a table pushed against a wall, put the H30 at the rear and step down to the H19 at the front, so every flame is visible.
- Uneven spacing. Set the holders slightly apart and off a straight line, as a loose triangle rather than a row. The shared profile ties them together even when the spacing is irregular.
- Centre runners on long tables. On a dining table, place the H30 in the middle and the two smaller sizes towards the ends, or repeat the trio twice along a long table.
- One accent. If you choose the H30 in gold, let it be the only gold piece among snow white holders. A single metallic note reads as deliberate; several compete with each other.
Start with the Nobili H30 if you only want one holder, since it carries a table alone. Add the Nobili Tealight holder high H25.5 cm snow white and the Nobili Tealight holder high H19 cm snow white later to complete the steps.

Pairing with the low round Nobili
The tall holders lift the light; the round version keeps it low. The Nobili Tealight holder round Ø14 cm olive green is a wide, low holder in glazed ceramics with the same softly gleaming, sculpted surface as the rest of the series. At Ø14 cm it is wider than even the H30, so it reads as a base note rather than another step.
Used together, the two types solve different problems. A row of tall holders on a narrow table can leave the surface itself in shadow; one or two round holders placed between them pool light on the cloth, around the bread basket or among the glasses. On a coffee table, where tall holders would block the view across the room, the round version can work alone, with a single tall holder on a nearby shelf echoing it at a higher level.
Colour is the other reason to mix. The olive green adds a muted, earthy tone that sits well next to snow white bone china and lets the group feel less formal. It is a good choice if you want Nobili on the table through the autumn and winter rather than only at Christmas.

Which Nobili height to choose
If you want one holder for a windowsill or a small table, the H19 is the practical choice. If you want a single piece that works on most dining tables, take the H25.5. If you want a centrepiece, or the gold finish, the Nobili Tealight holder high H30 cm snow white is the one. And if you like the idea of layered light, the three heights together with one round holder make a complete setting from a single series.
