Arne Jacobsen designed the AJ lamp for Copenhagen's SAS Royal Hotel in 1957 — his total work of art, where the tilted, asymmetric profile of the lighting echoed the Swan and Egg chairs created for the same building. Louis Poulsen reintroduced this guest-room-scale AJ Mini for the hotel's 60th anniversary in 2020, including the polished stainless steel of the very first hotel lamps, alongside wet-painted colours; the white-painted inner shade tilts about 90° to aim the light.
The smaller scale is what makes the AJ Mini so useful: it sits comfortably on a bedside table, windowsill, desk edge or shallow shelf where the full-size version would feel imposing — graphic by day, focused and glare-free by night.
