PH 2/2 Question Mark Pale Rose Table Lamp

Originally designed by Poul Henningsen in 1931, the PH 2/2 Question Mark uses the iconic three-shade system for soft, glare-free light through mouth-blown glass shades. Its curved "question-mark" stem lets the head rotate 45° to direct the light. First made in brass with amber, red, yellow or classic opal options, the Pale Rose version celebrates Henningsen's fascination with colour and light.

By 1931, Henningsen had spent half a decade expanding the three-shade system he and Louis Poulsen had introduced to acclaim — and a gold medal — at the 1925 Paris International Exposition. The Question Mark shows the system at its most playful: the stem curls like punctuation, and because the shade head pivots, this was a rare early PH lamp whose light could be aimed rather than merely placed. Henningsen was equally serious about colour; he experimented throughout the late 1920s and 1930s with tinted glass to warm the harsh electric light of the era, and the pale-rose mouth-blown shades revive that line of inquiry, each one subtly unique from the glassblower's hand.

The adjustable head makes this a working lamp as much as a beautiful one. Angle it toward a book on the nightstand, swivel it over a writing desk, or turn it to wash a wall with rose-tinted light in the evening — flexibility that earns its place in compact rooms where one lamp serves many moods, as in so many city apartments. The brass stem warms with age, deepening the lamp's character.
