Arne Jacobsen designed the AJ Eklipta in 1956 for Rødovre Town Hall, wanting a luminaire that read as pure geometry: a luminous circle on the wall. The mouth-blown opal glass has a transparent edge that casts a soft, decorative halo — a gentle “eclipse” — where the glass meets the wall, and the design has hardly changed since; a smaller size joined the family for his St Catherine's College in Oxford, all produced by Louis Poulsen.
Lit or unlit, the Eklipta is a calm, sculptural presence: mount a single Ø 220 beside the bed in place of a table lamp, or hang a pair symmetrically around a mirror or above the sofa. The larger sizes are IP44-rated and traditionally used outdoors and on stairways. Explore more wall lamps or the Arne Jacobsen collection.
Light source: Ø 220: G9, max 33 W (integrated LED versions available), IP20. Ø 350 / Ø 450: E27, 1 bulb, max 60 W, IP44. Bulb not included.
