BH23 Bauhaus Floor Lamp

The Bauhaus-inspired BH 23 is a sculptural floor lamp from around 1923, its counterweighted arm recalling Oskar Schlemmer's playful forms and Marianne Brandt's refined designs. Nickel-plated and consecutively numbered with the TECNOLUMEN / BAUHAUS signet, it makes an artful statement in sophisticated interiors.

The lamp belongs to the extraordinary period of experiment around the Bauhaus metal workshop in the early 1920s, when light fittings were rethought from first principles as compositions of sphere, disc and line. The name of the BH 23's original designer has not survived, which is precisely why its balanced, counterweighted arm reads like a conversation between the era's protagonists — the theatrical geometry of Oskar Schlemmer and the disciplined metalwork of Marianne Brandt. TECNOLUMEN, the Bremen manufactory founded in 1980 by Walter Schnepel and best known for its authorised re-edition of Wilhelm Wagenfeld's WG 24 table lamp, brought the design back to life; each example is nickel-plated, consecutively numbered and stamped with the TECNOLUMEN / BAUHAUS signet.

At home, the BH 23 behaves more like kinetic sculpture than furniture. Set beside a reading chair or a sofa, the counterweighted arm lets you swing focused light exactly where it is needed, then lift it away to calm the room — one expressive object doing the work of several lamps, which suits the compact apartments common across Asian cities. Its slender, linear frame keeps sightlines open in small living rooms, while the gleaming nickel finish picks up and multiplies daylight by a window.
