Fun Floor Lamp

Many regard the Fun collection as one of Verner Panton's greatest masterpieces in lighting design. Since 1964, this floor lamp has sparked joy and countless stories.

The FUN 1STM is a floor lamp with a three-ring chrome frame.

Verner Panton (1926–1998) was Danish design's great provocateur — the man who left the safety of teak and craft tradition for saturated colour, plastics and total environments. With the Fun series of 1964 he turned to an unexpectedly natural material: thin discs of mother-of-pearl seashell, hand-cut and hung in cascading layers from simple metal frames. The discs do more than glitter — they sway with the slightest movement of air and touch one another with a soft, chime-like sound, making Fun one of the rare lamps that engages the ear as well as the eye. Today the series is produced by VERPAN, the Danish company founded in 2003 exclusively to keep Panton's designs in authentic production; see the breadth of his work in our VERPAN collection.

As a floor lamp, the FUN 1STM behaves like a piece of jewellery for the room — by day a shimmering sculpture, by night a column of soft, pearlescent light. Place it in a corner of the living room or beside an armchair, where passing movement keeps the shells gently alive. In smaller apartments it earns its footprint by doubling as the room's main decorative object, so you need less elsewhere; its reflective discs also bounce light around, brightening rooms with limited daylight.
