Kay Bojesen
Kay Bojesen (1886–1958) trained as a silversmith under Georg Jensen and spent his career arguing that useful things should also be cheerful. His wooden animals (carved in teak, limba, oak and maple, the Monkey of 1951 above all) are the best known of them, and they are still made to his drawings by Rosendahl Design Group.
The collection reaches well beyond the animals. His Royal Guard figures include the Guardsman with gun small and the Sentry box H36 cm, and the birds run from the Songbird Ravn large to seasonal editions such as the Monkey Christmas Jumper 2024 mini.
Wood is a living material: grain and tone vary from figure to figure, and the joints are made to be posed, so an arm or a leg can be moved by hand without force. Keep the figures away from radiators and direct sun.
