Skot Wall Lamp

Originally developed in the early 1900s by Lauritz Knudsen (LK) for ships and maritime use, the Skot light's compact, robust form quickly found favour far beyond the marine world. In 2012 it was updated with an energy-efficient LED, pairing classic craftsmanship with modern technology.

The Skot is a rare thing in designer lighting: a true industrial artefact rather than a studio creation. Lauritz Knudsen, the Danish electrical pioneer whose company shaped much of Denmark's early electrical infrastructure, designed it to survive salt spray, vibration and weather on working ships — which is why its form is so honest and unadorned. Every curve exists for a reason: the sealed housing keeps water out, the compact profile resists knocks, and the louvred face directs light downward where it's needed. That engineering-first character is exactly what later made it a quiet favourite of architects, who began specifying the little ship's light for facades, summer houses and entryways. With its IP65 rating and built-in LED, the Skot is as practical as wall lighting gets: mount it beside a front door, on a balcony wall, along a garden passage or over a terrace bench, and it will quietly do its job year after year in any weather.
