NJP Wall Lamp

The NJP Wall by Oki Sato of nendo is a contemporary take on the classic anglepoise lamp. Its flexible head and adjustable arms make it ideal where adjustable beds and fixed lighting clash, with the LED positioned high to reduce glare. A chimney-shaped head directs light through the rear, softly lighting the arm while letting heat escape.

Oki Sato founded the Tokyo design studio nendo in 2002 and has since become one of the most celebrated figures in contemporary Japanese design, known for quiet, minimal forms enlivened by a single playful idea. The NJP series, launched by Louis Poulsen in 2015, is Sato’s homage to the classic architect’s task lamp — rethought from the inside out around modern LED technology rather than retrofitted with it. The wall-mounted version carries that working-lamp precision into fixed architecture, keeping the balanced arms and tilting chimney head that define the series, while the rear opening lets a soft secondary glow wash back over the arm itself.

Mounted beside the bed, the NJP Wall can replace a bedside lamp entirely — a clever move in compact bedrooms where every centimetre of nightstand space counts, and a natural fit for apartment living in dense cities. Set the arm low and forward for focused reading light, then fold it back against the wall when not in use. It is equally at home above a desk or a favourite reading chair, and its understated finishes sit comfortably in both Scandinavian and Japanese-inspired interiors — a fitting crossover for a Japanese designer working with a Danish lighting house.
