The Panthella 160 Portable is the cordless member of Verner Panton's Panthella family for Louis Poulsen. Shade and trumpet-shaped base work together as reflectors, so this 16 cm portable lamp gives soft, 100% glare-free light wherever you set it down.
Panton designed the original Panthella in 1971 as a “light sculpture” in which the base is an active reflector rather than a mere support; Louis Poulsen later added this rechargeable version in his exact proportions.

Panton's 1971 Panthella, sized down and set free
Verner Panton designed the Panthella in 1971 so that you see the light, never the bulb. The Panthella 160 Portable keeps his shade and trumpet base in the same proportions, at 16 cm across and without a cord. Charge it, then carry it to the bedside, the shelf or the dining table.

Glare-free light
The shade sends the light down onto the trumpet base, which reflects it back into the room. The LED stays hidden from every angle.
No cable to plan around
A full charge gives up to 8.5 hours at 100%. It recharges by USB-C, with a white indicator on the base.
Simple touch control
Tap the switch on the top nut to step the brightness. A long press locks it, so it stays off in a bag or a child's hands.

A base that works as a reflector
Panton called the Panthella a light sculpture. The base is not just a support: its trumpet curve catches the light from the shade and spreads it softly around the lamp. The result is an even glow with no bright spot.
Opal, opaque and metallised shades
Opal shades glow through and light the whole lamp. Opaque shades keep the colour solid and push all the light downward. Chrome and brass metallised finishes mirror the room around them.
Made to move
At 24.1 cm tall and about 1 kg, the lamp is easy to lift with one hand. Use it as a reading light by the bed, a glow on a bookshelf or a soft centre on the dinner table.

1926–1998
Panton was a Danish designer and architect who started his career in Arne Jacobsen's office. He worked with bold colour and new synthetic materials. Louis Poulsen has produced his Panthella since 1971.
Using it at home
How long does the battery last?
Up to 8.5 hours at 100% brightness, and longer on the lower steps.
How do I charge it?
Use the USB-C port with an adapter of at least 1.5 A. The white light on the base shows that it is charging.
Can I dim it?
Yes. Tap the touch switch on top to move between brightness steps. Hold it to lock the setting.
Should I choose the 160 or the 250?
The 160 suits bedside tables, shelves and small spaces. The 250 is large enough to replace a corded table lamp.
How do I clean it?
Wipe the shade and base with a soft, dry or lightly damp cloth. Switch the lamp off first.
