designed by Verner Panton
Designed by Verner Panton with Louis Poulsen in 1971, the Panthella turns both shade and base into reflectors for soft, 100% glare-free light. The Panthella 250 Portable is a larger cordless version of the beloved table lamp, keeping its signature organic form and light distribution — ready to move anywhere, indoors or out.
When the Panthella appeared in 1971, it distilled everything Verner Panton stood for: organic geometry, optimism and a refusal to separate function from delight. Panton — who had worked in Arne Jacobsen’s studio before becoming Denmark’s most fearless modernist — conceived the lamp so that base and shade work together as one continuous reflector, producing light with no visible source and no glare. The design has never left production, and in recent years Louis Poulsen has expanded the family with rechargeable versions; the 250 sits between the pocket-sized 160 and the full-sized table lamps, large enough to light a setting, small enough to carry in one hand.
The 250’s extra shade diameter gives a noticeably wider pool of light than smaller portables, which makes it a genuine table lamp substitute rather than an accent. Use it on a dining table or balcony for evenings outdoors, as a cable-free bedside lamp, or on a windowsill where a cord would be unsightly. In compact apartments it earns its keep by moving wherever light is needed — one well-chosen lamp doing the work of three.
