The Panthella 320 is the mid-size table lamp in Verner Panton's Panthella series for Louis Poulsen. Its 32 cm opal acrylic shade glows softly across its whole surface, while the trumpet-shaped base doubles as a reflector for warm, glare-free light.
Panton created the Panthella with Louis Poulsen in 1971 as a “light sculpture” — shade and base forming one continuous gesture. The 320 revives his original proportions for contemporary homes.
Place it on a sideboard, desk or bedside table: it reads as sculpture by day and gives calm, ambient light by night. Explore more table lamps or the full Louis Poulsen collection.
Light source: E14, 1 bulb, max 75 W. Indoor; on/off switch on the cord. Bulb not included — we recommend an E14 LED (4–4.3 W, 470 lm).

Louis Poulsen
Panton's 1971 lamp where the base is a reflector
Verner Panton launched the Panthella with Louis Poulsen in 1971. The hemispherical shade sends light down onto a trumpet-shaped base, which reflects it back into the room, so you see the glow and not the bulb. The family now runs from a 16 cm portable to a 50 cm floor lamp.
- 1971Year the Panthella was launched
- 160–500Shade diameters in mm across the family
- 2020Year the cordless Panthella Portable arrived
- 2Reflectors: the shade and the trumpet base
Soft light, hidden bulb
Shade and base work together, so the light reaches the room only after it has been reflected.
Sizes for every surface
Portables at 16 and 25 cm, table lamps at 25, 32 and 40 cm, and floor lamps for reading corners and living rooms.
Corded or cordless
The portables run on a built-in battery with step dimming, so they move from shelf to terrace table.
Panton's love of colour
Opal white sits next to coloured opal, opaque and chrome versions, a nod to the designer's love of colour.

A light sculpture
When it appeared, the Panthella's curved form was new because both the stand and the shade worked as reflectors. Light falls from the shade onto the trumpet base and spreads around the lamp as a diffuse glow.

Years of experiments
Louis Poulsen began working with Panton in the 1960s. The Panthella took several years of trials with materials, reflection and colour. Chrome was a bold choice then and mattered a great deal to Panton.

From portable to floor
The 160 and 250 Portables suit bedside tables and dinners outside. The 320 and 400 table lamps sit on sideboards and consoles. The floor lamp lights a reading chair or the corner of a living room.
Materials
Opal acrylic shade
Glows across its whole surface while sending most of the light downward.
Moulded polymer base
The trumpet form is the second reflector, so keep it dust-free for the best light.
Integrated LED or socket
Portables use a built-in LED; the 320 takes an E14 bulb, and the 400 and floor lamps take E27.
Designer and brand
Verner Panton
1926–1998
Panton was a Danish designer known for bold colour, new materials and a strong sense of form, light and space. He is also known for the Panton Chair and the Cone Chair. Today the Panthella is the only Panton lamp Louis Poulsen produces.
Using it at home
Which bulb does it need?
The Panthella 320 takes an E14 bulb and the 400 table and floor lamps take E27. Around 2700 K gives a soft mood, 3000 K suits reading.
How do I clean it?
Switch it off and wipe the shade and base with a soft, dry or lightly damp cloth.
Which size should I choose?
The 320 is 438 mm tall and the 400 about 550 mm tall, both for sideboards, consoles and desks.
How is it switched?
All versions have an on/off switch on the 2.5 m cord.
Why is the light so soft?
The shade sends light onto the trumpet base, which reflects it back into the room, so you see the glow and not the bulb.
