The elegant Pantop line, designed by Verner Panton in 1980, has long been a staple of the Verpan collection — defined by a bell-like, widely flaring shade mounted aperture-down. The cordless Pantop Ø18 Portable is available in Cream White, Vivid Orange, Cherry Red, Pitch Brown, Night Blue, Dark Teal, Light Teal and Chrome.
Verner Panton (1926–1998) was Danish design's great colourist — a Royal Danish Academy-trained architect who passed through Arne Jacobsen's studio before charting a radically different course through the 1960s and 70s with the Panton Chair, the VP Globe and the immersive Visiona interiors. The Pantop of 1980 shows his late-career discipline: a single archetypal bell form, flared wide and aimed downward, designed to be repeated across an entire family of lamps and animated above all by colour, which Panton always treated as a functional element rather than decoration. VERPAN, the Danish company founded in 2003 to produce Panton's designs faithfully to his original drawings, has adapted the form into this rechargeable Ø18 portable without disturbing its proportions.
At just eighteen centimetres across, this is the Pantop at its most companionable — small enough for a windowsill, a stack of books or the corner of a café table, yet unmistakably a piece of design history. Cordless lamps are quietly transforming how compact apartments are lit: instead of one fixed ceiling light, a portable like this lets you carry a warm pool of light to wherever the evening happens — dining table, balcony ledge, bedside. Pick a saturated shade like Cherry Red or Vivid Orange to punctuate a neutral room, or Chrome to mirror its surroundings. See how it compares in our round-up of the best portable designer lamps, browse the full portable lamp collection, or explore more of the designer's work in the Verner Panton collection.

VERPAN
Panton's 1980 bell shade, corded or cordless
Verner Panton designed the Pantop in 1980. Its bell-like shade flares wide and is mounted with the opening facing down, so the light falls where it is needed. Verpan makes it as a Ø23 pendant and table lamp and as cordless Ø18 portables, in many colours.

One shape, many uses
Pendant, table lamp or portable: the same flared bell links lights across a home.
Cordless option
The portable runs on a built-in battery and moves from desk to terrace.
Panton colour
Cream White, Vivid Orange, Cherry Red, Pitch Brown, Night Blue, Dark Teal, Light Teal and Chrome.
Soft, directed light
The shade sends the light downward, and an opal diffuser softens it on the table and portable lamps.

A late Panton classic
Panton drew the Pantop in 1980, after two decades of bold lamps and furniture. It is quieter than his space-age pieces, built on one confident shape, and has long been a staple of the Verpan collection.

Pendant and table lamp
The Ø23 pendant has a lacquered spun metal shade painted off-white inside, a chrome-plated stem and a 350 cm off-white textile cord. The table lamp sets the same flared shade on a chrome-plated base.

Cordless Pantop
The portable has a built-in LED with a three-stage dimmer and up to seven hours of light per charge. A silicone horseshoe under the base keeps it steady on a table, shelf or garden wall.
Materials
Lacquered shade
Spun metal on the pendant, painted off-white inside to reflect the light; injection-moulded plastic on the portable.
Opal diffuser
Softens the light on the table and portable lamps.
Chrome-plated metal
Stem and base; wipe with a soft, dry cloth to keep the shine.

Verner Panton
1926–1998
Panton trained as an architect and worked early on in Arne Jacobsen's office. He broke with the wood-and-craft tradition of Danish design, using bold colour and new materials. VERPAN works with Verner Panton Design AG to keep his lamps and furniture in production.
