The elegant Pantop line, designed by Verner Panton in 1980, has long been a staple of the Verpan collection — defined by a bell-like, widely flaring shade mounted aperture-down. The Pantop Ø23 is available in Cream White, Vivid Orange, Cherry Red, Pitch Brown, Night Blue, Dark Teal, Light Teal and Chrome.
The Pantop arrived in 1980, in the mature phase of Verner Panton's career (1926–1998). Having spent the 1960s and 70s building a reputation as Danish design's boldest experimenter — the cantilevered Panton Chair, the spherical VP Globe, the walk-in colour worlds of Visiona — Panton turned to refining archetypes. The Pantop's bell-shaped shade is a study in how much a single curve can do: it shields the light source, directs illumination cleanly downward, and presents a sculptural profile from every angle. Colour completes the design; Panton considered it a functional element capable of setting a room's entire mood, which is why the family spans quiet creams and deep teals as well as vivid reds and oranges. Production rests with VERPAN, the Danish manufacturer founded in 2003 to make Panton's designs exactly to his original specifications.
The Ø23 pendant is the Pantop at an intimate scale, ideal where a full-size pendant would overwhelm: above a bedside table, a small desk, a bar counter or a breakfast nook. In compact city apartments, a row of two or three — in matching or deliberately mismatched colours — turns a simple counter into the room's centrepiece while keeping surfaces clear of lamps. Hang it low to create an island of warm light in an open-plan space. For more placement strategies, read our guide to designer lighting for small apartments, see the complete pendant lamp collection, or browse the wider VERPAN collection.

VERPAN
Panton's 1980 bell shade, corded or cordless
Verner Panton designed the Pantop in 1980. Its bell-like shade flares wide and is mounted with the opening facing down, so the light falls where it is needed. Verpan makes it as a Ø23 pendant and table lamp and as cordless Ø18 portables, in many colours.

One shape, many uses
Pendant, table lamp or portable: the same flared bell links lights across a home.
Cordless option
The portable runs on a built-in battery and moves from desk to terrace.
Panton colour
Cream White, Vivid Orange, Cherry Red, Pitch Brown, Night Blue, Dark Teal, Light Teal and Chrome.
Soft, directed light
The shade sends the light downward, and an opal diffuser softens it on the table and portable lamps.

A late Panton classic
Panton drew the Pantop in 1980, after two decades of bold lamps and furniture. It is quieter than his space-age pieces, built on one confident shape, and has long been a staple of the Verpan collection.

Pendant and table lamp
The Ø23 pendant has a lacquered spun metal shade painted off-white inside, a chrome-plated stem and a 350 cm off-white textile cord. The table lamp sets the same flared shade on a chrome-plated base.

Cordless Pantop
The portable has a built-in LED with a three-stage dimmer and up to seven hours of light per charge. A silicone horseshoe under the base keeps it steady on a table, shelf or garden wall.
Materials
Lacquered shade
Spun metal on the pendant, painted off-white inside to reflect the light; injection-moulded plastic on the portable.
Opal diffuser
Softens the light on the table and portable lamps.
Chrome-plated metal
Stem and base; wipe with a soft, dry cloth to keep the shine.
Designer and brand
Verner Panton
1926–1998
Panton trained as an architect and worked early on in Arne Jacobsen's office. He broke with the wood-and-craft tradition of Danish design, using bold colour and new materials. VERPAN works with Verner Panton Design AG to keep his lamps and furniture in production.
