Pantop Portable

The Pantop Portable is a cordless take on Verner Panton's classic 1980 design, keeping the signature bell-shaped shade. Easy to move from room to room, it offers up to seven hours of light per charge, with a three-stage dimmer to suit any mood.

Verner Panton (1926–1998) designed the original Pantop in 1980, late in a career that had already reshaped what Danish design could be — from the moulded Panton Chair to the radical colour-saturated interiors of his Visiona exhibitions. The Pantop marked a return to essential forms: a bell-like shade, flared wide and mounted aperture-down, with colour carrying the expressive weight. Panton believed colour was a functional part of design, not an afterthought, and the Pantop's bold palette reflects that conviction. The portable edition, produced by VERPAN — the Danish company founded in 2003 to manufacture Panton's work to his original drawings — translates the design into a rechargeable, cable-free lamp without altering the silhouette that made it a classic.

Freedom from the socket is what makes this lamp so useful in real life. With an IP44 rating it moves happily from bedside table to balcony, from a dinner table centrepiece to a picnic blanket — a particular advantage in compact city apartments where outlets are scarce and furniture has to multitask.
