The Patera Pendant, designed by Øivind Slaatto for Louis Poulsen in 2015, reimagines the chandelier as a glowing sphere of small diamond-shaped cells arranged along a Fibonacci spiral — the pattern of sunflower heads and pine cones. Each hand-assembled cell captures light and shields the bulb from viewing angles above 45 degrees, so the sphere glows evenly, entirely without glare.
Because the Patera radiates softly in every direction, this pendant lamp suits open-plan living areas, stair voids and dining spaces alike, looking finished from any angle. A single sphere creates an intimate halo over a round table; a cluster at staggered heights becomes the starry sky Slaatto intended. Four sizes span Ø 300 to Ø 900 mm. Light source: E27, 1 bulb — Ø 300: max 40 W; Ø 450: max 60 W; Ø 600/Ø 900: max 100 W. IP20, indoor. Bulb not included.

A chandelier built on the Fibonacci spiral
Øivind Slaatto designed the Patera for Louis Poulsen in 2015. Its sphere is made of small diamond-shaped cells set along a Fibonacci spiral, the pattern found in sunflower heads and pine cones. Each cell is assembled by hand and shields the light source from view.

No glare from below
The cells hide the bulb from every viewing angle above 45 degrees. You see a glowing sphere, not a light source.
Finished from every side
The Patera spreads light in all directions, so it looks right in open rooms, stair voids and double-height spaces.
A size for each room
Four diameters run from Ø 300 mm for a small table to Ø 900 mm for a large hall.
Made by hand
Every die-cut cell is assembled by hand, which gives the shade its precise pattern.

Geometry from nature
Slaatto arranged the cells along the Fibonacci spiral, the order in which seeds grow in a sunflower. Each cell catches light and reflects it outward. The sphere glows evenly while the bulb stays out of sight.

Over the table or up high
One Ø 300 or Ø 450 makes a calm halo over a round dining table. In a stairwell or a tall room, hang several at different heights for a cluster of light.

The large sizes
The Ø 600 and Ø 900 take a bulb of up to 100 W and fill a large space. The Ø 900 measures 865 mm high and suits lobbies and double-height living rooms.
Materials
Matt PVC cells
Die-cut, diamond-shaped cells assembled by hand along the Fibonacci spiral.
Chromed brass suspension
Matt-chromed brass and die-cast acrylic hold the sphere.
Fabric cord and canopy
A 4 m white fabric cord with the canopy included.

Using it at home
Which bulb do I need?
An E27 bulb: up to 40 W for Ø 300, 60 W for Ø 450 and 100 W for Ø 600 and Ø 900. Versions with built-in LED at 2700 K or 3000 K are also offered.
How high should I hang it over a table?
Around 60–70 cm above the tabletop keeps the light on the table and the sphere in view.
Which size fits my room?
Ø 300 suits a table for two to four. Ø 450 fits most dining tables. Ø 600 and Ø 900 are for large rooms and tall spaces.
Can I dim it?
Yes, with a dimmable bulb and a compatible dimmer. Lower settings make the sphere glow more softly.
How do I clean it?
Remove dust with a soft brush or a gentle stream of cool air.
