The PH 2/2 Question Mark shows Poul Henningsen's three-shade system at its most playful. Designed in 1931, its stem curls like punctuation and the shade head tilts 45° to either side — a rare early PH lamp whose light could be aimed rather than merely placed. This Louis Poulsen edition revives his colour studies in mouth-blown, four-layered pale rose glass, glossy outside and sandblasted white inside, on untreated brushed brass that deepens with age.
The adjustable head makes it a working table lamp as much as a beautiful one: angle it toward a book on the nightstand, swivel it over a writing desk, or turn it to wash a wall with rose-tinted evening light. Find more Henningsen designs in our Louis Poulsen collection or compare our table lamps.

A 1931 PH lamp whose head you can aim
Poul Henningsen designed the PH 2/2 Question Mark in 1931. Its curved stem gives the lamp its name, and the shade head tilts 45° to either side. This edition pairs mouth-blown pale rose glass with brushed brass that deepens with age.

Light you can direct
Tilt the head 45° to either side to light a book, a desk or a wall.
Soft rose light
The glass is glossy outside and sandblasted white inside, so the light comes out soft with a warm rose tone.
Brass that changes
Stem, base and shade holder are untreated brushed brass that darkens slowly and takes on its own patina.

Three shades, one aim
The Question Mark uses Henningsen's three-shade principle, which hides the bulb and spreads the light without glare. The tilting head was rare among early PH lamps. It made the light something you could point.

Pale rose glass
Four layers of mouth-blown glass give the shade depth. The sandblasted white inside spreads the light evenly, while the glossy outside shows the colour.

On the desk or nightstand
At 410 mm high and 275 mm wide, it fits a nightstand or a writing desk. Turn it toward the wall in the evening for a soft wash of rose light.

1894–1967
Henningsen began working with Louis Poulsen in 1924 and stayed with the company for life. His PH lamp won gold at the 1925 Paris Exposition. In 1926 he set out the three-shade system that his lamps still follow.
Using it at home
Which bulb should I use?
One E27 bulb of up to 25 W. A warm white LED of 2700 K suits the rose glass.
How far does the head move?
It tilts 45° to the left or right, so you can aim the light at a book, the desk or the wall.
How do I care for the brass?
Dust it with a soft, dry cloth. The untreated brass will darken over time, which is part of its character.
How do I clean the glass?
Let the lamp cool, then wipe the shade with a soft, damp cloth and dry it.
