The PH 5 Mini is the 30 cm version of Poul Henningsen's iconic PH 5 pendant for Louis Poulsen. Its three-shade system directs light downwards without glare, while small red and blue inner shades fine-tune the colour rendering for a warm, flattering glow.
The original PH 5 appeared in 1958 as Henningsen's answer to ever-changing bulb designs — a pendant lamp calculated to light beautifully with any light source. The Mini, introduced in 2017, brings the same geometry to smaller rooms.
It is scaled for two-to-four-seat dining tables, kitchen counters and bedside corners — or hang a pair over a kitchen island. Compare both sizes in our PH 5 buying guide, or browse the wider pendant lamp collection.
Light source: E14, 1 bulb, max 20 W; dimmable with a dimmable bulb. IP20, indoor. Bulb not included — we recommend an E14 LED (4–4.5 W, 470 lm).

Louis Poulsen
The 1958 PH 5, scaled to 30 cm
Poul Henningsen designed the PH 5 in 1958 to give good light with any bulb. In 2017 Louis Poulsen introduced the PH 5 Mini, the same geometry at 30 cm. It brings glare-free light to smaller tables, kitchens and bedrooms.

No glare
The shade system sends the light down and out, so you never look into the bulb.
Better colour
Small red and blue inner shades fine-tune the light for a warm, flattering tone.
Right for small spaces
At 30 cm across, it suits tables for two to four, kitchen counters and bedside corners.
Many finishes
17 options, from White classic and Hues of colour to polished brass and copper.

The PH 5 principle
Henningsen built the PH 5 so that its light stays soft as bulbs change. The shades reflect light down onto the table and outward into the room. The red and blue elements inside warm and refine the tone.

White inner sides
Each aluminium shade is matt lacquered with a white inner side. The white surface reflects the light evenly, whatever colour the outside is.

Brass and copper
The metal versions are polished brass or copper. They reflect the room and change slowly over time.
Materials
Matt lacquered aluminium
Shades with white inner sides for even, soft reflection.
Polished brass or copper
Used on the metal versions for a warm, reflective surface.
Fabric cord
3 m long, with canopy included.

1894–1967
Henningsen began working with Louis Poulsen in 1924 and stayed with the company for life. His PH lamp won gold at the 1925 Paris Exposition. The PH 5 of 1958 is his best-known pendant.
Using it at home
Which bulb should I use?
One E14 bulb of up to 20 W. An E14 LED of 4–4.5 W and about 470 lm works well.
Can I dim it?
Yes, with a dimmable bulb and a compatible dimmer.
How high should I hang it?
Around 60–70 cm above a table or counter. A pair works well over a kitchen island.
PH 5 Mini or PH 5?
The Mini at 30 cm suits small tables and compact rooms. The PH 5 at 50 cm suits larger dining tables.
How do I clean it?
Let it cool, then dust the shades with a soft, dry cloth or a soft brush.
