The PH 80 floor lamp translates Poul Henningsen's three-shade system into white opal acrylic, with a hidden red top reflector that warms the light. The result is glare-free, evenly diffused illumination with a distinctly 1970s character.
Louis Poulsen created the PH 80 in 1974 to mark the year Henningsen would have turned eighty, applying his logarithmic-spiral geometry to the materials of a new decade.
Place it beside a sofa or reading chair: the downward light is generous enough for reading while the glowing shades soften the whole corner. Browse more designer floor lamps or the Louis Poulsen collection.

PH 80: made in 1974 for Henningsen's 80th year
Louis Poulsen created the PH 80 in 1974 to mark 80 years since Poul Henningsen's birth, which gives the lamp its name. It carries his three-shade principle into white opal acrylic. The floor, table and rechargeable portable versions share the same glare-free shades.
- 1974Year the PH 80 was created
- 80Years since Henningsen's birth
- 3Versions: floor, table, portable
- 3Opal shades in each lamp
Henningsen's shade geometry
The shades follow his three-shade principle, hiding the light source and spreading it softly.
A warm top reflector
On the original version a red top reflector warms the light; black and white versions use a white reflector for a cleaner look.
Light, even acrylic
High-pressure moulded opal acrylic glows evenly across every shade.
Also as a cordless
The portable version has a built-in rechargeable LED and is rated IP44 for terraces and balconies.

A name, not a size
In most PH lamps the number gives the size of the top shade. Here 80 refers to the anniversary of Henningsen's birth, which Louis Poulsen marked in 1974, seven years after his death, with this new member of his family.

Shades for a new era
The PH 80 applied his glare-free shade geometry to the materials of the 1970s. Opal acrylic gives diffused, reflected and symmetrical light, directed mostly downward, with soft shadows and comfortable light for the room.

Three ways to use it
The 131.5 cm floor lamp lights a seating area, and the table lamp suits a sideboard or desk. The 30.5 cm portable has a rechargeable LED and moves from the dining table to the balcony or terrace.
Materials
Opal acrylic shades
Wipe with a soft, lightly damp cloth; do not use solvents, which can mark acrylic.
Chrome or painted stem
High-lustre chrome-plated or powder-coated steel on the floor and table lamps.
Red or white reflector
The reflector in the top sets the tone of the light, from warm to clean white.
Designer and brand
Poul Henningsen
1894–1967
Henningsen was born in Copenhagen and studied at technical schools in Frederiksberg and Copenhagen, though he never graduated as an architect. He began working with Louis Poulsen in 1924, a partnership that lasted his life. In 1926 he set out the three-shade system his lamps still follow.
Using it at home
Which bulb should I use?
The floor lamp takes one E27 bulb of up to 70 W. The colour of the bulb changes the light, so a 2700 K LED keeps it warm.
How do I clean the shades?
Let the lamp cool, then wipe the acrylic with a soft, lightly damp cloth and dry it.
Can I use it outdoors?
No. Keep the floor lamp indoors.
How is it switched?
It has a switch or a dimmer on its 2.6 m cord.
How big is it?
It is 1315 mm tall with a 550 mm shade.
