Vilhelm Lauritzen designed the VL 56 Pendant in 1956 for the Danish Labour Movement's building in Copenhagen — now the Vega concert hall — where it still hangs above the wood-panelled bar. A radial perforation pattern around the shade opening creates a soft transition between light and darkness, giving this small Louis Poulsen pendant a warmth unusual for polished metal. Both the chrome and brass versions were reintroduced in 2023.
The VL 56 directs light downward onto the surface below, making it ideal over a dining table, kitchen island or bar counter — hang two or three in a row for a quietly rhythmic effect. Choose chrome for crisp interiors or untreated brass that patinates over time. See more pendant lamps or our guide to designer lighting for small apartments.
Light source: E27, 1 bulb, max 40 W. IP20, indoor. Bulb not included.
