designed by Olafur Eliasson
The OE Quasi, created by Olafur Eliasson with Louis Poulsen, combines two geometric shapes — a rigid aluminium icosahedron and a floating polycarbonate dodecahedron. LEDs embedded in the frame direct light toward the central reflector for spherical illumination. Built sustainably from 90% recycled aluminium and recyclable materials, its complex form offers shifting perspectives and dynamic, glare-free light.
Olafur Eliasson, the Icelandic–Danish artist born in 1967, is best known for large-scale installations that turn light, water and air into immersive experiences — most famously The Weather Project, which filled Tate Modern’s Turbine Hall with an artificial sun. The OE Quasi, launched with Louis Poulsen in 2019, brings that same fascination with geometry and perception into the home. Its name nods to quasi-geometry: the interplay of the twenty-faced outer frame and twelve-faced inner shade creates a structure that appears to change as you move around it. Eliasson also insisted the lamp be designed for disassembly, so individual parts can be repaired or recycled rather than discarded.
This is a sculptural centrepiece that rewards space: hang it over a generous dining table, in a stairwell or in a double-height void where it can be seen from multiple angles. Because the light is bounced inward and diffused, it stays comfortable to look at even at eye level. Keep surrounding decor restrained and let the geometry do the talking — in a minimal interior the OE Quasi reads as art as much as lighting.
