Bysted Garden Bollard

Designed by Peter Bysted in 1975, the Bysted Garden bollard is a compact, updated version of the original — easy to install in commercial and residential outdoor spaces. Four rings direct light downward for a distinctive glowing pattern, while the bolt-free, minimalist form in durable painted cast aluminium resists patination. Available in two heights and connectable in runs of up to four bollards, spaced up to 30 m apart.

The design belongs to Louis Poulsen's long tradition of civic outdoor lighting — the Copenhagen house, founded in 1874, has shaped how Danish streets, parks and doorways glow at night for the better part of a century. Peter Bysted's 1975 bollard distilled that tradition into a quiet cylinder: rather than a bare globe scattering light in every direction, its stacked rings catch the beam and turn it downward, so the fixture marks a path with pools of light while its own surface stays soft to the eye. The Bysted Garden brings the idea to domestic scale, keeping the original's stepped silhouette and honest construction in a more compact body.

At home, the Bysted Garden earns its place wherever light should guide rather than glare. Set along a path or driveway it draws a calm rhythm of glowing rings toward the door; beside a terrace or seating corner it gives enough light for an evening outside without flattening the garden's darkness — and because the light is pressed downward, nothing shines into windows or a neighbour's balcony, a courtesy that matters in the dense residential settings of many Asian cities. The two heights can be mixed along a slope or stair, and a run of up to four connected bollards turns a longer path into a composed whole.
