designed by Poul Henningsen
The PH 3/3 pendant by Poul Henningsen is a "whole"-sized lamp based on his 1926 three-shade system, with a 30 cm top shade in the classic 3:2:1 proportion for balanced, glare-free light and a warm atmosphere. The aged-brass and opal-glass finish adds timeless elegance — at home in hallways, kitchens, bedrooms and living rooms.
Where the hybrid models mix shade sizes, the PH 3/3 is the pure expression of Henningsen's original idea: top, middle and bottom shades in the exact 3:2:1 ratio he calculated in 1926, each curve a section of the logarithmic spiral. The system grew from his gold-medal "Paris Lamp" of 1925 and from a conviction that electric light should be analysed like acoustics — measured, redirected, civilised. The aged-brass edition pairs that geometry with untreated brass fittings that darken and gain character over the years, against three-layer opal glass whose sandblasted undersides spread the light into a soft, even glow.
The patinating brass makes this version especially suited to interiors with warm materials — oak floors, walnut furniture, linen and leather — where a polished chrome fixture would feel cold. Hang it over a round dining table, in a stairwell, or low in a bedroom corner as Scandinavians do. Its modest 30 cm top shade means it never crowds a compact room, a real advantage in city apartments.
