designed by Poul Henningsen
The PH 80 was created in 1974 as a tribute to Poul Henningsen — one of Denmark's most celebrated lighting designers — on what would have been his 80th birthday. Part of the famous PH series, the cordless PH 80 Portable follows his glare-free, multi-shade principles, giving warm, diffuse, indirect light for homes and professional spaces alike.
Henningsen (1894–1967) spent four decades demonstrating that artificial light could be soft, warm and kind to the eye, shaping every shade of his lamps on curves derived from the logarithmic spiral so the source itself stays hidden. The original PH 80 translated those 1920s principles into the opal acrylic of the 1970s, with a concealed red top reflector warming the light's tone. The Portable edition brings the story into the present: the same silhouette and shade geometry, now with a built-in rechargeable LED that frees the lamp from the wall socket entirely. It is a rare thing — a half-century-old design that gains new abilities without losing a line of its character.
Cordless and rated for both indoor and outdoor use, the PH 80 Portable moves wherever the evening goes: the dining table tonight, the balcony or terrace tomorrow, a bedside table for the weekend. In compact city apartments, one portable lamp can replace several fixed ones — a tidy answer when sockets are scarce and every surface counts.
