VP Globe Pendant Opal Glass Ø50

The VP Globe Opal Glass pairs a transparent acrylic outer sphere with five opal-white glass reflectors on steel chains, letting light glow softly through. Designed by Verner Panton to catch the eye and unify a room, this Ø50 cm version works beautifully over dining tables, in hallways, or as a sculptural corner piece; also available in Ø40 cm.

When Verner Panton drew the VP Globe in 1969, he was not designing a lamp so much as a small environment. The Danish designer — famous for his total interiors and the visionary Visiona installations of the late 1960s — believed lighting should shape the mood of a whole room, not merely brighten a surface. The VP Globe makes that ambition literal: a transparent acrylic sphere with its reflectors suspended inside on fine steel chains, so the entire mechanism of light becomes a floating composition you can study from every seat in the room. Half a century on, the design is still produced by Verpan, the Danish manufacturer entrusted with keeping Panton's lighting in production exactly as he intended.

In the Opal Glass edition, the five reflectors are made of milky white glass rather than polished metal, and the character of the lamp changes completely. Light passes through the opal glass instead of bouncing off it, so each element glows from within — the effect is closer to a cluster of soft moons than a chandelier, serene and entirely glare-free. At Ø50 cm, the generous scale gives those glowing forms room to breathe inside the sphere; this is the size to choose when the lamp needs to carry a larger dining table, a double-height stairwell, or a living room with a tall ceiling. Because the outer shell is transparent, even this larger globe keeps a remarkable visual lightness — presence without heaviness.

Styling it is straightforward: give it air. Hang it where it can be seen in the round — centred over a dining table at roughly 60–70 cm above the surface, or in a hallway or corner where it reads as suspended sculpture.
