The VL Ring Crown family, designed by Vilhelm Lauritzen for the Danish Broadcasting House in the 1940s, brings timeless elegance to contemporary spaces. Vilhelm Lauritzen (1894–1984) ranks among the founding figures of Danish functionalism. His Radiohuset in Copenhagen — the broadcasting house of the Danish national radio — is considered a landmark of the movement, and Lauritzen’s studio shaped every detail of its interiors, from furniture and door handles to the lighting, which was developed together with Louis Poulsen, the Danish manufacturer behind the designs of Poul Henningsen and Arne Jacobsen. The VL Ring Crown lamps grew out of this total-design tradition: simple geometric volumes of brass and opal glass, conceived to age gracefully alongside the architecture. Because the brass is left untreated, each lamp slowly develops a natural patina and becomes a little more personal year after year, while the mouth-blown glass softens the light into an even, comfortable glow.
