designed by Wilhelm Wagenfeld
Wilhelm Wagenfeld's WSTL 30 brings Bauhaus styling to a tall floor silhouette with a fabric shade. TECNOLUMEN updates the original cellon to a heatproof synthetic while keeping the nickel-plated metal and black-lacquered base. Its balanced proportions give a soft, diffused light for living rooms or offices. Each lamp is consecutively numbered and marked with the TECNOLUMEN seal.
Wagenfeld came of age in the metal workshop of the Bauhaus in Weimar, and he carried the school's core lesson — that form should follow honest function — through a long career as one of Germany's defining industrial designers. The WSTL 30 dates from 1930 and shows how naturally that thinking scaled up from the desk to the room: a slim stem, a clean disc base and a simple shade, each element doing exactly one job and nothing more. There is no ornament to date it, which is why it still reads as contemporary nearly a century later. TECNOLUMEN, the Bremen manufacturer entrusted with producing Wagenfeld's lighting, follows the original drawings faithfully while substituting a heat-resistant modern material for the period cellon shade; every example is consecutively numbered and carries the TECNOLUMEN seal, marking it as the authentic edition rather than one of the many imitations the design has inspired.
As a floor lamp, the WSTL 30 earns its place by being useful without being loud. Its diffused glow through the fabric shade is ideal beside a reading chair or sofa, filling the corner of a living room with calm, even light that flatters both people and materials. In smaller urban apartments — including the compact layouts typical of Asian cities — a floor lamp like this is often smarter than another ceiling fixture: it needs no installation, moves with you, and the slender silhouette occupies almost no visual space. Pair it with mid-century teak, crisp white walls or contemporary minimalist interiors; the nickel stem and black base anchor virtually any palette.
The WSTL 30 sits within a wider family of Bauhaus-era designs in our TECNOLUMEN collection, where you can also find its smaller siblings for desks and bedside tables. To compare its quiet geometry with other standing classics, browse our full floor lamps range, and for placement strategies that make tight rooms feel larger, our guide to designer lighting for small apartments offers practical, room-by-room advice. Honest materials, balanced proportions and a numbered seal of authenticity: the WSTL 30 is Bauhaus history that works for a living.
