Moser Pendant

The Moser Pendant, designed by ceramic artist Anu Moser in 2002, was inspired by the shapes that form when blowing molten glass. Its enclosed drop shape completely shields the light source, and the mounting mechanism is patented.

Anu Moser came to lighting from ceramics, and it shows in the Moser's quiet, vessel-like form. Rather than sketching a shade and fitting a bulb inside it, she started from the behaviour of molten glass itself — the soft drop that forms naturally at the end of a glassblower's pipe — and let that gesture become the lamp. Each shade is made of opal glass, so the entire surface glows evenly when lit, with no visible bulb, no hot spot and no glare from any angle. The patented mounting detail keeps the canopy connection clean and nearly invisible, preserving the impression of a luminous drop floating in the air. For Louis Poulsen, a company whose philosophy since Poul Henningsen has been to design light rather than fixtures, the Moser is a natural fit: the form exists entirely in service of soft, comfortable illumination.

Because the Moser is glare-free even when viewed from below, it is one of the easiest pendants to place.
