SLAMP

SLAMP has made lighting in Rome since 1994, working almost entirely in technopolymers rather than glass or metal. Its patented materials (Lentiflex, Cristalflex, Opalflex and Goffrato among them) can be cut, folded and layered by hand, which is how a flat sheet becomes a shade with the depth of blown crystal and the weight of paper.

Adriano Rachele's designs anchor the range: the Clizia Table gathers petal-like layers into a cloud, and the Veli Table builds its shade from overlapping leaves. The Tulip Battery and Accordéon Battery are rechargeable versions for tables that move outdoors.

The material has practical consequences: shades are light enough to hang from a single point, shatter-resistant, and cleaned with a soft dry cloth rather than water, which is worth knowing for a dining table or a room with children.
