Arne Jacobsen designed the AJ Wall Lamp in 1957 for the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen, where it hung beside the beds in his total work of art — the tilted, asymmetric shade echoing the Swan and Egg chairs created for the same rooms. Louis Poulsen has produced it ever since; the shade adjusts roughly 90° up and down and 60° to each side, with a white-painted interior for soft, glare-free light.
It still does its original job beautifully: mounted at shoulder height beside the bed it frees the nightstand entirely, dropping adjustable reading light exactly where you want it — a symmetrical pair gives a small bedroom hotel-like calm. Equally at home over a desk or in a hallway. Browse our wall lamps collection or the Arne Jacobsen collection.
