Mart Stam designed the MSW 27 in 1927 — a nickel-plated metal bowl that emits soft, atmospheric light. TECNOLUMEN highlights Stam's underappreciated contributions beyond his iconic cantilever chair; polished or matte nickel finishes bring understated elegance to Bauhaus-inspired homes. Every lamp is numbered and engraved with the TECNOLUMEN signet.
Mart Stam (1899–1986) was a Dutch architect at the centre of the modern movement: he is credited with the first cantilever tubular-steel chair, contributed a house to the landmark Weissenhof Estate exhibition of 1927, and taught as a guest lecturer at the Bauhaus in Dessau. The MSW 27 dates from that same remarkable year. It is a wall lamp reduced to a single gesture — a shallow metal bowl held just off the wall, washing light upward and letting the wall itself become the reflector. Nothing is decorative; everything is purposeful. That economy of means is why the design still looks contemporary almost a century later. TECNOLUMEN of Bremen, the manufacturer renowned for its authorised Bauhaus re-editions, produces the MSW 27 with the same care as its Wagenfeld classics: each lamp is consecutively numbered and carries the TECNOLUMEN signet.
Because the MSW 27 throws indirect light, it excels wherever you want brightness without glare: flanking a bed instead of table lamps, lining a hallway, or above a sofa to lift the ceiling visually. Uplight makes low rooms feel taller — a useful trick in compact city apartments, and one of several covered in our guide to designer lighting for small apartments. The polished version reads slightly more formal, the matte more relaxed; both pair naturally with other pieces from the TECNOLUMEN collection. You can also browse our full range of wall lamps.
Light source: E27 (E26 compatible), 1 bulb, max 60 W. IP20, indoor. Bulb not included — we recommend an E27 LED.
