Mart Stam
Mart Stam (1899–1986) was a Dutch architect and designer, credited with pioneering the famous cantilever chair in 1926. Deeply aligned with Bauhaus and modernist ideals, he championed functional simplicity through mass-producible designs. Stam’s work spanned from urban planning to furniture, setting new standards for everyday practicality. His iconic gas-pipe experiments redefined seating, culminating in one of modern design’s most recognizable silhouettes. Stam’s legacy is exemplified by creations that marry industrial efficiency with thoughtful minimalism.
