Pantop Pendant

Designed by Verner Panton in 1980, the Pantop features a bell-like, flaring shade and comes in bold colours, each adding its own personality to the collection.

The Pantop belongs to the late period of Verner Panton (1926–1998), when the designer — by then world-famous for the Panton Chair and the immersive Visiona installations — returned to simple, archetypal forms. Where his 1960s work explored space-age spheres and cascading shells, the 1980 Pantop distils the pendant down to a single confident gesture: a bell-shaped shade that flares wide and directs light precisely downward. Colour does the rest. Panton regarded colour not as decoration but as a functional element of design, capable of changing how a room feels, and the Pantop's palette — from quiet cream to vivid orange — was conceived to give one form many personalities. The lamp is manufactured today by VERPAN, the Danish company established in 2003 to produce Panton's designs true to his original specifications.

In the home, the Pantop Pendant is a natural choice wherever focused, downward light is wanted: over a dining table, a kitchen island or a reading corner. Its compact silhouette makes it especially well suited to the smaller rooms and lower ceilings typical of city apartments — hang two or three in a row over a counter for a rhythmic, café-like effect, or use a single bold colour to anchor an otherwise neutral interior.
